More and more devices operate wirelessly, but what about safety and reliability? From 2025, the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) will set stricter requirements for all wireless equipment within the EU. Discover what this directive means and how Moving Intelligence fully meets the latest standards.
RED
Radio Equipment Directive (RED) is a European regulation designed to ensure the safety, reliability and proper functioning of all wireless equipment within the European Union.
RED applies to nearly all devices that use radio frequencies, such as alarm systems, vehicle tracking systems, communication modules, IoT solutions, GPS trackers, wireless key fobs, Wi-Fi routers, Bluetooth accessories, mobile phones, smartwatches and even some smart household devices.
Challenges wireless technology
The rise of wireless technology has brought convenience but also challenges, such as interference, disruptions, and safety risks. Before the introduction of the RED, there was no uniform standard across Europe. As a result, the quality and safety of radio equipment could vary significantly, posing risks for both businesses and consumers.
That is why the RED was established to ensure:

From when do the new RED requirements apply?
The stricter requirements of the RED, with extra focus on cybersecurity and privacy, will take effect from August 1, 2025.
Do I need to replace my existing equipment as a company?
Not always. Only new products sold after August 1, 2025, must meet the renewed requirements. Check with your suppliers whether their products comply with the latest RED directive.
What are the benefits of RED-certified equipment?
You are assured of equipment that is safe, reliable, free from disruptions, and compliant with all European laws and regulations.

What are the risks if a product does not comply with the RED directive?
If a product does not comply with the RED directive, it may not be sold or used on the European market. If a non-certified product is offered anyway, the manufacturer or supplier may be held liable.
